EACH TOOL FUNCTIONS AS PART OF A LARGER PROCESS
Each tool advances the story’s development, and it’s important to see how they all function together. Your protagonist’s Dilemma is impacted by his or her Enneagram personality type and has a huge effect on how the story grows. The 36 Dramatic Situations highlight the story’s active elements, which deepen and expand every aspect of the plot. The way in which your protagonist resolves his or her Dilemma expresses the story’s Theme, which affects the script’s tone, flavor, and coherence. Using all the principles and techniques together gives you genuine mastery as a dramatist, and your scripts will tend to work.
TWO TOOLS THAT PULL ALL THE OTHER ONES TOGETHER
The Central Proposition uses logic to pull the story’s components together into one coherent plot. The master tool, Sequence Proposition Plot, helps you construct and dramatize the overall story, then each act, each sequence, and each scene—all before writing the script. You construct your plot in reverse, working backward from the ending through the story's cause and effect, then introduce conflict into each part to make it all consistently gripping.
SEE THE PROCESS IN ACTION ON REAL SCRIPTS UNDER CONSTRUCTION
First you’ll see how all the tools fit together, and then Jeff will tour you through several scripts he's building with apprentices in his advanced daily training program. This will give you a comprehensive, practical overview of the full process. The video of the full class will be available for those who want it or for those who paid but are unable to attend.
“From within the swarm of gimmicky screenwriting seminars and trendy new how-to’s, it is Jeff Kitchen’s approach, relying heavily on the classic principles of dramatic structure and logic, that emerges as truly innovative. His technique is the answer for anyone seeking practical tools with which to diagnose script problems, generate effective solutions, or transform story ideas into compelling drama. Jeff’s seminars are aggressive; they are work sessions that produce real results immediately. Come with your sleeves rolled up.” Erin Quigley – Producer/Development Executive, 23 Red Productions
