Course Overview:
The Comedy Intensive is a four-part live, interactive workshop on Saturdays starting in March from 10 am to 12 pm, Pacific.
The workshop explains comedy and comedy writing from the inside out: how it works, why it works, what’s going on when it doesn’t work, and most importantly, what can you do to fix it in your feature, sitcom, directing, or performance.
- Class 1: The Art, Science, and Philosophy of Comedy
- Class 2: The Hidden Tools of Comedy
- Class 3: Comedy Characters and Archetypes
- Class 4: Comedy Premise and The Comic Hero’s Journey
And if you you have to miss a session, you'll be able to stream the recorded class at your convenience.
The workshop covers includes interactive exercises, solo and group writing activities, as well as a liberal use of clips from current and classic comedies to illustrate our points and principles.
"I rarely think about why something I'm working on is funny. I'm usually just fixated on the fact that it's not funny enough. So it was interesting to look at it from such a thoughtful perspective. . . . Steve takes this ephemeral topic and reduces it to tangible terms that are both practical and illuminating. Oh, and it's funny. Which is useful when you're talking about comedy."
