Leamon E. Scott was born November 19, 1950 in Los Angeles, California and grew-up in a Watts neighborhood. He attended David Star Jordan High School, and upon graduating, sought a higher education at San Fernando Valley State College in the winter of 1968. There, he learned the “issues” of the 1960’s as he fought for an end to the Vietnam War, equal rights and social justices. After graduating from California State University Dominguez Hills in 1974 with a Bachelors of Arts degree in music and a minor in Afro-American Studies/Sociology, Leamon began his career as a civil servant with Los Angeles and Riverside County governments for a combined 32+ years; he is currently retired.
He spent over ten years as an Investigative Adult Protective Services Social Worker (SW) in Los Angeles’ tough skid-row district during the 1980’s - 1990’s. Further, he has amassed vast experience and knowledge about the population and services rendered to the people on the “row”. Leamon was the “select” and sole APS SW who worked the streets of Skid-Row, East LA, parts of Hollywood and Downtown LA.
Leamon penned an unreleased spoken word CD, “Welcome to WordMusik: Poetic Dialogue” (c) 1999; a collection of original poems, spoken by him and set to new music that featured his smooth saxophone styling’s. He licensed two songs to Diaspora Connections, Inc., whose artist Martha High (thirty years backup singer to James Brown) recorded on her CD, “It’s High Time”, in January 2009.
In May 2011 his Mystery/Suspense/Thriller novel: “A Seed for Cora Lee” was released and is available on Amazon.com and other sites. ISBN: 978-4520-8214-1 (sc)
Currently, he is performing with his smooth-jazz duo, S&R Jazz Connection with partner Rocco Costanzo, and writing new/original lyrics for the phenomenal soul-singer, “Radio” and the Dat EZ Band with Kirk Martin of Take Flite Ent. Long Beach, CA
