Peter began his writing career in 1985 and enjoyed early publishing success with travel writing and prize-winning short stories. His poetry appeared in P.E.N. New Poetry II edited by Elaine Feinstein, and he has reviewed fiction for Literary Review and London Magazine.
His first novel, a collaboration entitled THE USURPER, was published by Grafton in November 1988. In 1992 his first solo novel KISSING THROUGH A PANE OF GLASS won a Betty Trask Award (Best First Novel by a Writer Under 35), and was published in hardback by Simon & Schuster in June 1993, and subsequently in paperback. Three further novels, TOUCHED BY A GOD OR SOMETHING, BECAUSE IT MAKES MY HEART BEAT FASTER and DANIEL'S DREAM were also published by Simon & Schuster in both hardback and paperback editions.
His own screenplay adaptation of KISSING THROUGH A PANE OF GLASS was developed with Poisson Rouge Pictures. A short film script, CATFLAP, was short-listed by Scottish Screen/BBC Scotland for the 2001/2002 Tartan Shorts initiative and was a finalist in the 2003 British Short Screenplay Competition.
In 2003, Peter was awarded an MA in Screenwriting from The London Institute (formerly the LCP). In the same year he won the UK Film Council's "25 Words Or Less" Development Award for his thriller project THE CLEANER. The completed screenplay was subsequently selected for the Spring 2004 Moonstone International Screenwriters' Labs and was also a Quarterfinalist in the 2004 American Academy of Motion Pictures Nicholl Fellowships.
Peter and Caroline met in 2001 on a residential Euroscript screenwriting workshop and soon began collaborating on their first project, the short screenplay OVERTIME, which was short-listed for the 2002 "SciFi Shorts" competition. Another of their shorts, FAIR AND SQUARE was short-listed for the LFVDA/Film Council's "PULSE" initiative and was also a finalist in the 2004 British Short Screenplay Competition. Their short screenplay PERSISTENCE OF VISION was produced by Pridepath Films in 2003.
In 2004 they completed the feature project THE FIG TREE with the support of a South West Screen ScriptEd development award. In 2005 they received a development award from ScreenEast for their comedy feature HEAVEN HELP US. Their one hour TV drama SHUFFLE was commissioned in 2006 by the BBC for the "Evening Play" series. In 2008, their political action feature screenplay THE TERRORIST reached the quarterfinals of the AAA Screenwriting Competition, and their TV series proposal THE LAZARUS TEST was a finalist in the Red Planet Prize. Peter was also a quarterfinalist in the 2008 Screenwriting Expo Competition with his feature length drama screenplay ANOTHER LIFE.
Peter and Caroline's projects have also been short-listed in the "Sci-Fi" category of the UKFC's "25 Words Or Less" feature script development initiative for THE ELEVENTH PLAGUE, in the "Disaster" category for RAIN, in the "Musical" category for THE KLEZMER KINGS, in the "Comedy of Disguise" category for PLUCKED FROM OBSCURITY, in the "Action Adventure" category for BEYOND SAMARKAND, and most recently in the "Mistaken Identity Comedy" category for THE ACCIDENTAL DICTATOR.
Their action adventure screenplay THE GREAT GAME is in development with Big Bad Wolf Productions.
