Not a fan of unearned money, Gus Norton, a hardworking truck driver, must make a quick trip before Thanksgiving to save his company, after he bungled the last delivery of lumber. His long haul of glassware with an inexperienced partner driver Larry leaves Gus little time to worry about his wife who can't cook and is left planning the Thanksgiving dinner for the neighborhood. His partner manages to squeeze some dimes from tightwad Gus and wins a lottery ticket which brings Gus's ex-wife on his trail. Gus wants nothing to do with the lottery ticket until his ex-wife Jazzy shows up to claim it. Gus sends a fresh turkey to help his wife but it turns out to be a live turkey, the family's new pet. Against all odds, Gus gets the glassware delivered and hurries home to save his wife and son David from their visitor, his ex-wife. He finds the family have prospered and they like his ex-wife. Gus is forced to reckon with both his wife and ex-wife over his fears of money and abandonment. Gus fights for the lottery ticket and his family. Gus becomes partner with his boss with the money. Gus realizes he needs to be there for his ten year old son and his wife needs her job.
