Rex further angers Dad when he steals away from his position on the noisy ball field to explore nature, but the pressures at home are at breaking point. Marriage, how to raise kids, dealing with a local bully and favoritism problems escalate towards a broken home when Rex is suddenly sent to soccer camp to learn a sport in which he has little interest. Rex makes new friends and enemies easily while pursuing the grand prize of the raffle contest and mastery of kicking goals. Enemies move in on Rex and his plans, but new friends give unexpected support, allowing him to make a gift to his older brother when he returns home. Unfortunately for Rex, his home is broken and his hopes of Fourth of July fireworks fun are completely ruined. Disappointments added, Rex employs new hardness of his own to deal with the local bully and his own connection to nature. But when Rex's new carelessness is taken too far at the boat docks, only his Dad can save the day. Events transpire following the close call, allowing a broken home to still be a family.
