1979. John Steadman, 50, is wealthy, cultured and intelligent. Retired - and with too much time on his hands since his wife's death - he drinks himself into a stupor every night.
Adam, 21, is sick of watching his father fall apart. Now that he's graduated, he's free to escape on a life-changing trip to India with his girlfriend Emma.
But if John isn't helped he'll be dead within months. Desperate, Emma suggests that Adam takes John to India where the sub-continent's spirit and intensity may help to reinvigorate his passion for life.
But there is no common ground: John mocks Adam's lifestyle, while Adam thinks John is emotionally retarded, too pre-occupied with his own suffering to even acknowledge his son's pain. They'll be at each other's throats before the plane has landed.
However, with John deteriorating swiftly, Adam reluctantly agrees to try. And John, even more reluctantly, agrees to go.
But how will John - fragile and distressed - cope with the pressures of India? Especially when Adam insists they do it 'his' way: cockroach-infested crash-pads, cramped, second-class train carriages… the 'real' India? In the midst of the chaos, will they find a way to repair their fractured, faltering relationship?
And how will John rediscover the will to live again, to love again, to make another life for himself?
Set against the colourful and dramatic backdrop of Northern India, Another Life is a story of love, death and re-birth, and of one man's battle for redemption against overwhelming odds.
