ROBYN (BOBBY) CASSADY is a feisty racing car driver who yearns to make a name for herself in the male dominated world of motor sport. After she shunted off the track by her perennial nemesis, WALKER (T-BONE) DANIELS, in the final race of the touring car season, it appears that her dream will never come true.
When a crippling injury to high profile driver, ALEC WENDELL, on the eve of the new season forces the fledgling Girie Racing Team to find a replacement, Bobby is gifted the chance of a lifetime to compete on the V8 Supercar circuit and renew her rivalry with Daniels.
At the first, no one expects her to be competitive. Both spectators and fellow competitors see the diminutive female driver as nothing more than a novelty. As the season progresses however, it becomes clear that Bobby has real talent and it isn’t long before she breaks through for her maiden win proving herself to be a true contender.
With her star rising on and off the track, Bobby’s dreams are brought crashing down when a high-speed accident reduces her car to a shock of twisted metal, forcing her to return to life in the slow lane working as an instructor at her father’s driving school.
Without a car and his team disintegrating before his eyes, team owner REUBEN GIRIE, makes a desperate plea to BMW, the German manufacturers of his V8 Supercar, to source a replacement chassis. When the brand new BMW M5 arrives, the team bands together behind Bobby, working night and day to rebuild the car from scratch. They finish just in time to compete in the ultimate race on the Australian motor sport calendar - the Bathurst 1000.
Bobby renews her fierce rivalry with Daniels while sharing the gruelling daylong driving duties with Alec Wendell who, it seems, hasn’t fully recovered from his injuries. With each lap race more painful than the last, Alec soon realizes that he is holding Bobby back and sabotages his chance of finishing the race for her benefit.
Left to complete the final stages of the race alone, Bobby drives to the limits of her ability, clawing her way up through the field. Curbing her desire to always win, Bobby outmaneuvers Daniels sending him crashing out of the race. Cheered on at every turn by the tumultuous crowd, an exhausted Bobby finishes the race in a creditable fifth place to claim her title as the Queen of the Mountain on the unforgiving Mount Panorama circuit.
