I have always wanted to write a script about WWII set in Greece, as there are numerous unexplored stories that I have both read and personally heard from people who lived and fought in the war.
And what's a greater story than the first ever sabotage in Nazi-occupied Europe?
The setting is the unique Greek mountains, where the British commandos are faced - among other things - with a cultural shock. The primary relationship between Monty, the witty upper-class British Major, and Ares, the vulgar yet gregarious and highly capable Greek guerilla leader, is what drives the story - and what I feel could easily be actor bait. The secondary characters all have their unique voices and arcs with stories that range from humorous adventures to tragic fights.
So, this script is not only based on actual heroic deeds, but it also has all the fundamental elements of a solid structure: a clear goal, midpoints, GSU, stakes, arcs and so on, all acted out by characters who fight a common enemy but strive with conflicts among themselves and their ideologies.
Last but not least I present you with the biggest conflict of all: Greek vs. British cuisine.
Imagine Saving Private Ryan meets Zorba the Greek.
