Introduction
Ghost Finder is the retelling of 6 early 20th-century ghost stories.
Based on the short stories by William Hope Hodgson, Ghost Finder follows the paranormal investigations of Tasmin Carnacki, as she exposes hauntings and hoaxes.
Set in the here and now drawing inspiration from the popularity of paranormal investigation shows and "who done it" style dramas, Ghost Finder explores the line between belief and fact.
When originally published, these stories followed the after-dinner anecdotes of a well-to-do man, recounting his most recent investigations of mysterious events at the homes of the upper classes; rather like a paranormal Poirot.
Much like the BBC's Sherlock series, this adaptation brings events into the modern era, using contemporary tools of the paranormal trade and setting it in homes and locations more recognisable to today's audiences.
Structure
Continuing Drama.
Ghost Finder will be structured like a 1-hour crime drama, each of the 6 episodes centring around a possibly haunted location and each event reaching a conclusion by the end of the episode.
Beginning with someone having a reason to call Tasmin; an attack, or strange and continuously unexplained event, and ending with Tasmin exposing either a real paranormal occurrence or a hoax.
Tone and Style
Visually reminiscent of TV shows such as Sherlock, Strike and other high-end TV drama.
Due to the nocturnal nature of paranormal investigations, the cinematography will at times be dark and often tense, sometimes utilising found footage as Carnacki produces videos in night vision and full spectrum cameras as part of her investigations.
Horror
Much of the horror in Ghost Finder is supernatural.
Ghostly sounds, apparitions, poltergeist activity; with many of the more brutal events the result of human activity as criminals attempt to hide their crimes, and jilted lovers seek revenge.
The supernatural entities will often be obscured or vague in their visual representation, but may appear differently on sound recordings or in night vision/specialist camera clips. When they are seen, they will mainly be that of traditionally reported apparitions, shadow figures, light orbs and partially formed figures.
