Blake is a former high school baseball star, who never moved on to greater things. Settled down in his hometown with a family and lunchpail job, he still daydreams of his glory days. However, there's a new star in town. A young hotshot named Hip has the town a buzz with his home runs and swagger, and Blake has become the local synonym for "has-been". But the love of the game still drives Blake, as he spends his precious free time volunteering, helping his former Coach work with the current team. This puts him at odds with Todd, the new assistant coach, who doesn't understand baseball, only attendance figures.
After Blake's rustbucket car bites the dust, he meets a strange man who offers to sell him what he calls his "Soul Car" -the car Blake was meant to own, as dictated by the cosmos. Its a 2002 Camaro convertible - the exact kind Blake drove in high school. Needing a car, Blake can't resist the allure of the sports car, to the dismay of his overly-practical wife Karlie.
As Blake is driving the Camaro and daydreaming about his glory days, he is stunned to find the car has actually transported him back in time, to replay the game he was daydreaming about. Blake hits home runs, and wins the game, and feels happier than he has in years. To convince his best friend Shep that he isn't nuts, he brings Shep with him back in time to a game. After the game, they discover that a major league Scout was ready to approach Blake after the game, but never got to speak with Blake.
And Blake wonders if maybe he missed his big opportunity. But should he risk his family to try for another chance to make it big in the past?
